WHAT! Animal's OTT Release Might Get Delayed; Co-Producer Moves To Delhi High Court Demanding A Stay From Streaming Ranbir Kapoor's Film, Here's Why
Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial Animal featuring Ranbir Kapoor, emerged as a blockbuster after its December 1, 2023 theatrical release, setting numerous records with over Rs 900 crore in box office earnings. Anticipation for its OTT debut on Netflix has been high, slated for January 26, 2024. However, a legal dispute has arisen, with reports indicating that Cine1 Studios, an alleged co-producer, has filed a lawsuit against T-Series, citing non-payment issues and seeking a halt to the OTT release of the film. ALSO READ: Animal: Ticket Prices Of Ranbir Kapoor's BLOCKBUSTER Slashed To Rs 100 After Its Successful Three-Week Run

Cine1 Studios has taken legal action against T-Series in the Delhi High Court, alleging non-payment for its share in the intellectual property rights of the movie "Animal." The case revolves around a contract wherein Cine1 Studios claims a 35 per cent profit share and asserts a corresponding entitlement to a 35 per cent share through intellectual property rights. Citing a breach in the Acquisition Agreement, Cine1 Studios has requested a halt on the release of "Animal" on Netflix. ALSO READ: Post Animal's Box Office Mayhem; Nawazuddin Siddiqui Says He Is 'Hopeless' About Bollywood’s Future - Read To Know

Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing Cine1, emphasized T-Series' failure to honour the agreement, stating, "They have been collecting all the money but I have not been paid a single penny." Despite a longstanding relationship, the dispute prompted legal action due to the perceived lack of respect for the agreement.

Contrarily, Senior Advocate Amit Sibal, representing T-Series, contended that Cine1 Studios had not financially invested in the movie and willingly relinquished all intellectual property rights for a sum of Rs 2.6 crore. A contractual amendment on August 2, 2022, formalized this arrangement, with the specified amount being paid. The upcoming court hearing for this case is scheduled for January 18, 2024.
